How to Pack for the Journey Clothes

This is the controversial one, and it is from a male point of view so look at it with a grain of salt.

1 – pair of black pants (uniform) make it waste extendable..does help a lot
2 – pair of light dress pants
1 – pair of jeans
1 – pair safari or lightweight slacks
2 – pairs of shorts
2 – dress shirts
2 – fishing type (Columbia) shirts
2 – short sleeves shirts
4 – polo shirts
2 – T-Shirts
3 – swimming trunks
2 – sweater
1 – Jacket (blazer)
1 – tie
1 – black belt
1    relaxed belt
1 – hat
1    Pyjama
6 _ pairs of socks
7    pairs of underwear
1 – packable lightweight rain/wind jacket
1 – pair of black shoes (dressy and uniform)
1 – pair of lightweight sneakers
1 – pair of beach footwear (flip flops, sandals)
1 – pair of casual shoes (boat shoe types)
1 – small, lightweight backpack for day tours

And all of these goes in the Cube packing system.

Here is how it works

  • Make a list of everything you need.
Over-packing always starts with good intentions. Perhaps you've been caught in a sweltering climate without any deodorant and never want it to happen again. Maybe once it seemed completely rational to pack two extra toothbrushes, just in case. Most of the time, however, you'll find that being too prepared when packing leads to lugging around a lot of extra weight. Although it seems time-consuming, typing a list of everything you're going to need can help cut down on over-packing. A list helps you feel confident that you're not forgetting anything or packing too much. Set some time aside to brainstorm what you need for each day you'll be gone and then narrow it down to the basics.
  • Separate items into categories.
Once you have your list, gather everything you need and place it on a flat surface, like your bed, dining room table, or floor. Since packing cubes typically come in sets of three, divide everything you have into three categories: clothing, toiletries, and electronic accessories. If your cube set has an extra bag, you may also want to separate accessories and jewelry. Pack everything into the corresponding cubes, using the largest one for clothing. If you have any miscellaneous items that are absolutely necessary, place them in the outside pockets of your carry-on.
  • Configure the cubes in your carry-on.
Small rolling suitcases that fit the carry-on luggage size requirements are the best option when using packing cubes, but you can also fit the cubes into large duffel bags. Whichever type of luggage you choose, try to arrange the packing cubes so that they fill the space without making it hard to zip your bag.
  • Maintain the organization while you're traveling.
After you get to your destination, keep the items you aren't using in the corresponding cube, so packing for your return flight is painless.

Humour of the Day

Getting closer to departure, packing arrangements

Since this year I am not flying my airplane around the world, I have less stress on the airplane side, but I am still very much involved with the organisation of all the aspect of the journey.

Lets talk about packing, we are going to be gone for a little over 11 weeks total, between the flight from home to Quebec City and the return from Seatlle.

Covering a lot of territory and different climate.

I am for the one piece of luggage for clothing and one for the gadgets.

The luggage for clothes is an Eagle Creek EC Adventure Wheeled Duffle 30".

Product Specifications

30" x 16" x 8"

9 lbs, 1 oz

5430 cu. in.

600D Poly Ripstop, 600D Helix™

The wheel and the low weight are very important.

Then inside I use a number of packing cubes

The beauty of these, is the no brainer at each stops, no need to unpack all, just get the cube out on the shelve and use what you need.

Anais is our onboard concierge, she is flying, one day, ahead of the group to welcome us on arrival and make sure all the arrangements are all confirmed. One of them is the spring of laundry facilities to avoid the high cost of hotel laundry arrangements.

On my next posting I will share with you what the duffel contents are.

J-24 days for the departure of the 2015 Journey Around the World

On May 10, we will all meet in Quebec City for our 5th Journey Around the World.

This year, we have to this date 8 planes crossing the Atlantic. We will split way in Ibiza, where 4 will continue the Around the World journey and the 4 others will head back to the US via San Sebastian.

You have no idea of the amount of preparation for 8 planes to cross the Atlantic...

I am checking all the gadget needed on the journey and of course the packing

Camera wise I have still the trusted Lumix FZ70 and I am keeping an eye on the new Mega zoom suppose to come out in May.

This one is to film the landing and take off from inside the cockpit

And the Garmin for more inside footage

I have more gadget coming, so stay tuned.
